Welcome to Escaping Babylon where we are discovering what the Bible has to say about the end times, tribulation, second coming of Jesus, and the apocalypse. Jesus wanted us to be watching and waiting for his return.
The church in Smyrna was poor yet rich according to Jesus. They were facing persecution on all sides. Refusing to publicly declare "Caesar is Lord", they were considered troublemakers by the Romans. Standing firm on the resurrection of Jesus, they were kicked out of the protection of the Jewish synagogue. What happens when Christians must stand boldly for what they believe in a world that demands you bend to their standard?
Next week, we'll look at the church in Pergamum. It is the seat of Satan's throne. What does it mean to live as a Christian in a fallen world? What happens when Christians compromise with sin and allow false teaching in the church? Join us as we dive in further to our end times conversation and look forward to the hope of Jesus' return.

Forsaking Your First Love | E36

As we open Revelation chapter two, Jesus has the apostle John write down 7 letters to influential churches in Asia Minor. These are the very words of Jesus himself. If he was writing your church a letter, what would it say? The first up is the church in Ephesus. While Jesus has words of praise for the endurance and testing, he also has a strong rebuke. They have forsaken their first love. What happens when our faith becomes routine or we take it for granted. What does it look like to get back to that excitement we had when we first began the journey? Let's dive in and find out.

The King Returns on the Clouds | E35

We continue our journey through the book of Revelation. It was the last book to join the official canon of scripture as part of the 37 books of the New Testament. For this reason, many people have doubts about its authenticity and importance. Let's take a look at the facts and discover why this book was so controversial and how it eventually was codified.
In chapter 1, we are being introduced to the true authors of this book. While John wrote the information down as it was told to him or as he watched, it was dictated by God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit who was and is to come. This is a supernatural book from Almighty God about the one true King Jesus Christ. He is the focus of our study and this story is the return of the King.
Next up... We continue through chapter 1. John sees Jesus for the first time in several decades. Only this time, he sees a majestic King with eyes of fire. How did he respond? What does it mean for Jesus to be both King and High Priest? How would you approach the King? All good questions I look forward to diving deep into. See you next week!

The Time Is Near | E34

We finally begin our journey through the book of Revelation. We've spent the past half year studying Matthew 24 and portions of Daniel. Now, after building a framework, we begin to open up this amazing Revelation from the Apostle John who is exiled on Patmos. From the very first word, we begin our study. "Apokalypsis"... The apocalypse of Jesus Christ. And what do we discover? The time is near. Buckle up for a long journey as we work through this amazing book and discover that it is a message of hope for all who believe. Jesus is coming back!
Next up... We continue through chapter 1. Did you know the book of Revelation almost didn't make it into the canon? It was certainly the last to be codified. Why, and who was this letter written to? Are you ready for the return of Jesus? | E33

Part two of scary stories. Jesus tells three challenging tales about the end times and his second coming. Are you prepared, ready, and does your fruit match your words? Here we'll be introduced to all kinds of figures and difficult imagery describing the end times tribulation. There will be a beast (some call him antichrist), false prophet, many angels, the Son of Man, a dragon, locusts, frogs, seals, trumpets, bowls, and all sorts of other imagery. Preparing for Jesus' Second Coming | E32

In Matthew 24, Jesus describes some clear signs his disciples should be looking for. He then turns a corner and begins to share four stories about the end times. These can be scary stories for many. In the end, Jesus is going to separate the hypocrites from the genuine followers of Christ. Often times, these stories are skipped over or ignored because they are difficult, and yet they are an important towards understanding the Olivet Discourse. What does it look like to be patient, waiting, ready, and prepared? What really matters when Jesus returns?

End Times Events Unraveled | E31

Weaving our way through Matthew 24 on our way to the book of Revelation. This chapter in particular is foundational to our overall study. After all, if we were to talk about the end times, who better to hear from than Jesus himself as he sets the framework for this.
Today I want to summarize the chapter leading up to the day of the Lord. What does Jesus tell us? What is missing from the story? Hopefully this helps put some of the pieces of the puzzle together and allows us to get a big picture view of the narrative.

Dispensationalism Explained | E30

One day, millions of people throughout the world simply disappear. With no apparent reason for the disappearances, those who remain are left to wonder if their loved ones are alive, are being punished, or if they themselves are being punished. This is a summary of the Left Behind series of books and movies that has sold millions of copies throughout the world. In many ways, it is the prevailing narrative within the evangelical churches throughout America.
For many Christians, particularly in American, they have been taught a pre-tribulation rapture, followed by 7 years of tribulation, and culminating with the return of Christ before his millennial reign. They have come to believe this is the only narrative and it is right and true. Many are surprised to find out there are other reputable ideas concerning the end times and this narrative may not be held by many scholars and pastors throughout the world. Let's explore the origins of dispensational theology, what it teaches, and why it has become so popular in the past 3-4 decades throughout the American Evangelical culture.

Dreadful Days | E29

We are told of a sign that is a genuine indicator that you are living during the end times. And when you see that sign, we are told to RUN! Don't go back to get anything, don't look back, just run. What follows is a time like no other. Those who are true followers will not escape it. We are called to endure to the end.
How long is this unique period? We are told it is a time, times, and half time. In other verses, it is 42 months, and some say 1,260 days. All mean the same thing. It will be 3.5 years before the King returns. So when you see a statue or image in a place it ought not to be, start counting.

A Big Sign: When You See This | E28

What is the one big sign that the end has begun? Jesus already warned us not to be fooled by other signs such as wars, rumors of wars, earthquakes, famines, and pestilence. These are just he beginning of sorrows and Jesus called them birth pains. But then, Jesus tells them the one true sign to be looking for. This one is BIG and we are to be looking for it. What's this definitive sign? It's the Abomination that Causes Desolation as spoken of by the prophet Daniel. In this we are given a sign and a hint.
Join us as we unpack this amazing sign Jesus instructed us to be looking for. What did the book of Daniel have to say about this and what does that mean for us today? We continue our end times study of eschatology and prophecy throughout the Bible. Jesus wanted us to be alert and aware of the coming apocalypse. He told his disciples, "When you see." Therefore we should be awake, aware, and watching. He did not want us to be ignorant of the truth.
